An electric dirt bike, often called an e-moto, uses an electric motor and rechargeable lithium battery instead of a petrol engine.

Electric dirt bikes deliver instant torque, quiet operation and considerably less routine engine maintenance. Models range from lightweight trail and youth bikes through to full-size, high-performance off-road motorcycles.

The right bike depends on your size, experience, riding environment and how much power you genuinely need.

Some riders want a lightweight and agile bike such as the Surron Light Bee X or Talaria xXx Pro. Others prefer the size, suspension and power of a full-size bike such as the Surron Ultra Bee HP, Talaria Komodo or Ventus One Plus.

Top speed varies considerably between models.

Road-legal models generally have lower road-use speed limits, while off-road performance bikes can reach approximately 75km/h to over 120km/h, depending on the model and setup.

Always check the individual product page for the manufacturer’s stated top speed. Actual performance can be affected by rider weight, terrain, tyre choice, battery charge and riding conditions.

Range depends heavily on how and where the bike is ridden. A lighter rider travelling at a steady speed on flat ground will generally achieve considerably more range than a rider using full power on steep, soft or technical terrain.

Rider weight, speed, elevation, tyre pressure, temperature and riding mode can all affect range. Manufacturer range figures should be treated as a guide rather than a guaranteed riding distance.

Yes, but some models are more capable than others.

Electric dirt bikes are available for everything from casual trail and farm riding through to technical terrain, jumps and high-performance off-road use. Suspension, wheel size, ground clearance, brakes and overall bike size all affect where a model is best suited.

Only bikes specifically approved and registered for road use can legally be ridden on public roads.

Off-road electric dirt bikes are intended for private property, farms, tracks and other places where you have permission to ride. They should not be ridden on public roads, footpaths or cycleways.

Road-use requirements vary depending on the bike’s vehicle classification. Riders are responsible for meeting the applicable registration, licensing, helmet and road-use requirements.

Some models can be ridden in wet conditions within the manufacturer’s stated limitations, but electric dirt bikes should not be treated as waterproof.

Avoid deep water, submersion and direct high-pressure washing around the battery, controller, motor and electrical connections. After wet or muddy riding, clean the bike carefully and allow it to dry before charging.

Check the owner’s manual for the specific water-resistance guidance for your bike.

Charging time varies by battery size and charger, but most standard electric dirt bike batteries take approximately 2.5 to 5 hours to charge.

Some larger batteries and performance models may take longer. Always use the correct charger supplied or approved for your battery.

A properly cared-for lithium battery should provide several years of use, but its lifespan depends on how often it is charged, how it is stored and how the bike is ridden.

Avoid regularly running the battery completely flat, keep it away from extreme heat and follow the storage and charging instructions provided for your specific bike.

Store the battery in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures and moisture.

If the bike won’t be used for an extended period, follow the manufacturer’s recommended storage charge level and check the battery periodically. Avoid leaving a lithium battery completely flat for long periods.

Always use the correct charger. Do not charge a battery that is damaged, unusually hot, wet or showing signs of a fault.

Electric dirt bikes require less engine maintenance than petrol bikes, but they still need regular mechanical and safety checks.

Important maintenance includes:

• Checking brake pads, discs and fluid
• Maintaining correct tyre pressure
• Checking chain tension and lubrication
• Inspecting sprockets and drivetrain components
• Checking spokes, wheel bearings and steering bearings
• Checking bolts and fasteners
• Inspecting suspension and seals
• Monitoring the battery, charger and electrical connections

Mud, water, sand, jumps and hard riding can significantly increase wear and servicing requirements.

Yes. We supply and install controllers, motors, batteries, suspension, brakes, wheels, sprockets and other performance parts.

Not every upgrade is suitable for every bike or rider. Increasing power can place additional load on the battery, motor, drivetrain and other components, so we’ll help you understand the complete setup before proceeding.

Modifications can also affect manufacturer warranty coverage. Contact us before purchasing if you’re unsure about compatibility.

Warranty coverage varies by product, manufacturer and supplier. The applicable warranty information is provided with the product or confirmed at the time of purchase.

Warranties generally cover manufacturing defects and do not cover normal wear, crash damage, misuse, incorrect installation, unauthorised modifications, water damage or failure to follow the manufacturer’s maintenance and operating instructions.

Where the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act applies, nothing in our warranty terms limits the rights provided under that Act.

Parts and accessories are sent using an appropriate courier service. Bikes are generally shipped through Mainfreight’s motorcycle freight network and can be supplied boxed or assembled.
